What is MTHFR?
Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) is the rate-limiting enzyme in the methyl cycle, and it is encoded by the MTHFR gene.

Deficiency: Our bodies inability to properly process non-methylated B-Vitamins.

Affected: Depending on your Ethnic background it is somewhere between 20%-60%

Genetic: It is genetic so it is passed down from your parents and in turn you will pass it to your children.

Symptoms: There is a good side and a bad side. The good side is that this gene is associated with high performers, creative, innovative, proactive, involved and dedicated individuals. The down side is that you will be prone to anxiety, PMS, stress, heart disease, fatigue and addictions.

Harmful? Not if it is managed properly. People with MTHFR are also known to be harder workers, they just get stressed out and frustrated too easily.

Management: Taking the proper Methylated B-Vitamins (the Vitaben’s formula is specifically formulated to help you manage MTHFR deficiency symptoms), minimize eating sugar, white flour and junk food and be sure to get adequate sleep.
How to care for MTHFR

Testing : You can take a simple saliva test or our written quiz.

Results: Review your results with our in house doctor. If you have any questions or want a more personalized program, please schedule a consultation with our doctor.

Supplements: Take the proper methylated B vitamins and co-factors, which are found in the Vitaben’s formula.

Life Style: If you can tolerate grains they should be whole grains, as a rule spelt is healthier and less allergenic than wheat. Artificial colors and especially sugars (that means artificial sweeteners as well) are very toxic to the MTHFR deficiency individuals.

Exercise: 30 minutes daily of movement, the more vigorous the better it is for you. There are 4 facts to keep in mind when choosing an exercise regimen: 1. it needs to be safe and not too stressful for your body; 2. it must be fun, otherwise you are more likely to quit (it helps to do it with a friend); 3. stay hydrated, it will help you to avoid getting injured and 4. be consistent, the real benefits become apparent after you stick to it for a while.

Education: Getting educated on being a healthier you. The more you learn the more you will realize how important it is to make healthy choices.
