B12 is absorbed differently when it is sub-lingual as opposed to swallowing it. Either way it is absorbed but in people with certain types of stomach issues, they will need the B12 sub lingual or by injection. if you are taking anti-acids or medications for GERD then you will not be able to absorb B12 orally and you will need to take it sublingually. aside from that, our bodies are designed to absorb B12 naturally through eating or swallowing. the rest of the B vitamins are absorbed naturally by eating them. It is best to take the after eating food as some people can feel nauseous it they take the vitamins on an empty stomach.

What is the dosage for my child? When is it necessary to take full doses?
Children take lower doses and as a rule they do not need the GLA. for children 5 and under take 1/2 a capsule; 6-11 take a whole capsule and over 11 take the full adult dose( 2 capsules). for adults that are over 300 pounds take 3 capsules. In regards to the GLA, in children, they should take it only if there is no improvement with the B-Healthy formula alone. When children begin taking the GLA start with 100 mg and increase it to 200 mg if needed after 2 weeks. Adults take 300 mg of the GLA and if over 300 pounds, 400 mg. REMEMBER take the vitamins after food and then eat a little bit after taking the vitamins, this will void getting nauseous in most people.

I saw on line, at least on one site, that GLA should be limited in duration. Is this true? Also, Dr. Rothstein told me that the GLA may not be taken while pregnant. I am not pregnant, but want to know if i need to stop taking it every month until i know that i am not pregnant, or can i take it consistently until i learn that i am pregnant?
It can be taken consistently until you know you are pregnant. There is some research suggesting that GLA is good for the fetus. However, because of the fear that it may induce early labor, we recommend stopping the GLA once you know that you are pregnant.

If someone tests positive to having one deficient gene and not both?
Are the symptoms the same or does the good gene take over? That is a very interesting question. Generally speaking there will be to some extent a deficiency of the genes to methylate properly. It also really depends on whether someone is Heterozygous or Homozygous, and if the gene that is mutant is 1298 or 677. It was always taught that with autosomal genes, the dominant one was expressed while the recessive one was suppressed. That does not seem to be the case. In heterogeneous genomes, both the dominant and the recessive genes are expressed but to much lower degree that if it was homozygous.
Would MTHFR affect the absorption of other vitamins?

How would ADHD be affected by MTHFR Deficiency?
MTHFR deficiency can be a cause of ADHD. That is because with MTHFR deficiency, one will tend to feel anxious and anxiety can inhibit learning and cause a child to be fidgety. Teachers and even doctors often mistake anxiety for something else such as ADHD or depression. Anxiety often masquerades as ADHD and is often confused with and a cause of depression. Before starting your child on medications for ADHD first try easing his anxiety with the Vitaben’s MTHFR formula. If after 2 weeks there is no change, then it would be best to schedule a consultation with Dr. Rothstein before embarking on medications such as Ritalin.
What is TMG and what does it do and what does GLA and added zinc do?
TMG stands for trimethylglycine, It is a methyl donor and it is critical in many cellular functions. Although the body can produce it we have found that very often people with MTHFR deficiency need supplementation with TMG for optimal results. Zinc is commonly deficient in most of us and especially in those with MTHFR deficiency. Zinc is necessary for many reactions in the body and when someone is lacking Zinc their metabolism in general is less efficient and more prone to infections such as colds and flus. GLA is necessary as it seems to help the body retain and better use the B vitamins along with GLA and Zinc they act as co-factors in helping you absorb the vitamins. All of them are very important in helping you have the maximum benefits of the vitamins.
